D’Youville’s Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology gives you the knowledge and skills to become a qualified speech-language pathologist through challenging academic courses, interprofessional experiential education, and diverse clinical practicums and internships. You’ll complete the full-time, 56-credit program in under two years across five consecutive semesters, with rich clinical opportunities in Buffalo and the surrounding area.
You’ll gain experience working with children and adults across speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders—learning in our on-campus clinical skills lab and the Interprofessional Education and Simulation Center in the Health Professions Hub. Small class sizes support your learning and clinical skill development.
YOU WILL:
- Assess and treat communication and swallowing disorders across the lifespan
- Apply evidence-based, ethical, and culturally responsive clinical practice
- Collaborate on interprofessional teams in medical and educational settings
- Complete 400 clinical hours through practicums and internships
- Prepare to apply for ASHA certification and New York State licensure
PREPARE FOR ASHA CERTIFICATION AND NEW YORK STATE LICENSURE
The program prepares you to apply for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) and New York State licensure.
COURSES AND REQUIREMENTS
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Completed and verified CSDCAS application
- Completion of a baccalaureate degree prior to the start of coursework
- Cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 system)
- Prerequisite courses completed with a minimum grade of C (may be in progress, but completed before classes begin; see list below)
- Resume/CV (Optional)
- Applicants who attended school outside the U.S. or Canada must submit a WES course-by-course evaluation to CSDCAS; Canadian students submit transcripts to CSDCAS.
- English language proficiency: applicants whose first language is not English and who have not completed four years of higher education at a U.S. or Canadian institution must submit an official TOEFL score (minimum 90).

Speech-language pathologists are in demand across educational and healthcare settings. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that SLPs earned a median annual wage of $95,410 as of May 2024.
Speech-Language Pathologists
SLPs evaluate and treat patients with speech, language, and communication needs, as well as with swallowing disorder. They can work in Pre-K–12 schools or in skilled nursing, hospitals, and assisted living facilities. SLPs serve clients across the lifespan and work alongside a range of healthcare professionals.
