Prepare to practice as a licensed psychologist with D’Youville University’s comprehensive and supportive Doctor of Clinical Psychology (PsyD) program. With a focus on clinical training, faculty mentorship, social responsiveness, and ethical practice, our program offers aspiring psychologists a solid foundation to build their careers on.
Your training includes more than 1,000 hours of supervised practicum experience, a one-year pre-doctoral internship, and a clinical dissertation. Some of your clinical training can occur on our campus at our Community Counseling Center
You can tailor your PsyD by selecting one of our optional concentrations in either Health Psychology or Child and Family Psychology. The PsyD program takes a minimum of five years to complete.

PREPARE TO PRACTICE PSYCHOLOGY IN NEW YORK STATE
The PsyD program is designed to meet accreditation standards and prepare graduates for licensure in New York. For more details about New York State requirements for licensure, visit the NYS Education Department Office of the Professions.
COURSES AND REQUIREMENTS
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum undergraduate GPA of at least 2.80 (on a 4.0 system), or graduate GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 system)
- A bachelor’s degree in psychology from an accredited college or university is preferred. If your bachelor’s degree is not in psychology, a master’s in psychology, counseling or a related discipline is acceptable. If there is not an undergraduate degree or minor in psychology, the applicant is asked to contact the Program Director before submitting the application.
- At a minimum, applicants must have Introductory Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, and a research course, or equivalent, at the undergraduate or graduate level to enter the doctoral program. Please contact the Program Director to determine equivalence of program prerequisites.
- D’Youville is a GRE, GRE Subject Test, and TOEFL optional institution.
Required Materials

- A personal statement about your desire to become a psychologist
- A curriculum vitae or resume
After an initial review of the above materials, applicants meeting requirements will be invited for interviews with two faculty members.
Transfer Credit
Students may transfer up to 15 graduate credits in psychology with a grade of B or better at the discretion of the program director. Credits must be from an accredited institution in courses appropriate to the program.
Applicants may be offered conditional admittance while completing the bachelor’s degree or required prerequisites. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

CAREER OUTCOMES
Psychologists are in demand in mental health care, family therapy, forensic settings, industrial-organizational psychology, and other contexts. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the median national salary for psychologists in all disciplines was $94,310.
Clinical and Counseling Psychologists
Clinical and counseling psychologists provide treatment for mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. They assess and diagnose clients and provide psychotherapy aimed at helping clients identify their strengths and develop positive behaviors. Psychologists also collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to support their clients.
Industrial-Organizational Psychologists
I/O psychologists solve workplace problems and improve workplace cultures by applying psychological principles to organizational dynamics. They may conduct employee testing, conduct productivity studies, and work with executives to develop organizational change plans.
Forensic Psychologists
Forensic psychologists apply psychological principles to legal and criminal justice contexts. They work with attorneys, judges, and corrections officials to determine whether defendants or witnesses are psychologically capable of standing trial, evaluate how much risk an offender may pose upon release, and more.
